SEA ISLAND: Golf
Sea Side Course
Originally designed in 1929 by famed architects Harry S. Colt and Charles Alison, the Seaside Course underwent an update in 1999 by Tom Fazio, earning it a prominent place on Golf Digest’s list of Top 100 Courses in the United States. Situated at the southern tip of St. Simons, this true oceanside links course places a premium on careful shot selection, recovery and putting.
Plantation Course
With Rees Jones’s masterful renovation in 1998 of this Walter Travis original, the Plantation Course unfolds among a forest of ancient live oak and cedar, with a hint of danger lurking in its tidal creeks and lakes. Players invariably appreciate the expansive fairways that give such definition to this parklands-type course, as they do the frequent, stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Retreat Course
Resident touring professional and former PGA Champion Davis Love III lends his own distinct architectural style to this delightful golf course. Generously sized fairways meander through the forest, with water coming into play on 9 holes. Many Sea Island regulars consider the Retreat their favorite among a very impressive field.
