SEA ISLAND: Nature Tours

Sea Island's resident naturalists will take guests exploring through tidal salt marsh, ocean beach and interdune habitat to reveal the diversity that thrives along our coast.

Throughout the year:
  • Birding, with regularly scheduled bird walks introducing participants to migrating and resident shore birds, wading birds and song birds. Private birding excursions can be arranged by request.
  • Natural history horseback rides.
  • Salt marsh eco-adventures by boat offer an up-close look at the unique ecosystem of the barrier islands' marshes and the treasures they hold with our Sea Island naturalist.
  • Marsh kayaking with a naturalist, the ideal way to explore the vast tidal grasslands behind our barrier islands. Tandem kayaks can be reserved to facilitate family outings. Just-for-teens excursions are available seasonally.
Seasonally available activities:
  • Nightly sea turtle walks, a one-of-a-kind educational experience guided by a naturalist. Participants will learn about these magnificent sea creatures and look for turtle tracks, nesting mothers or hatchlings headed for their first swim in the sea.
  • On kids' campouts with Sea Island naturalists and members of the Junior Staff, children learn how to responsibly set up camp, cook dinner over the fire, explore the nighttime environment and sleep in our tents beneath the stars.
  • Learn more about our aquatic critters by ocean seining with our naturalists, pulling the sixty-foot net in the surf.
  • Ocean edge discovery walks along the tideline divulge treasures where sea and sand meet.
  • Guided bike rides with a naturalist highlight the flora and fauna of our barrier island.
  • Interactive raptor and reptile programs engage the participants in learning the life and history of native raptors, reptiles and amphibians.
